You need to go to the verity management under the admin tab and
configure verity.
Once you've configured verity, you need to build/update the
collections.  When you add or update content you will need to hit the
build/update again.

No idea why the search is redirecting to the homepage - what is the
search code you're using?  how are you doing the search? How is the
search included in your page?

Thats just the webskin.  The core files should be fine.
