Hi Chris, I am have just done a similar thing - I have created a dmUserProfile content type and use it to control the creation of dmProfiles, dmUser, assigning users to groups and a few other things.
It is easy to add the dmProfile maintenance in the beforeSave method. I have a dmProfileID property in dmUserProfile to allow linking/ maintenance. Chris.
