Not sure what version of FC you are using or what your code looks like, but...
My guess on this is that you are extending type.cfc when you should be extending version.cfc. (might be called versioning.cfc but is in the same directory as type.cfc (was in fc3)). Version.cfc handles archiving of types which is what happens when you click create editable draft. I'd be interested to follow up on this but I'm not at work at the moment.
