Thanks for the reply Geoff, as is typical I'm thoroughly confused by most of what I've read on this :)
There could be a small lack of examples on that link you provided unless I'm missing the obvious. "You can create a permission set manually by adding permissions named in the form "#typename##permission#" to the security model." How and where can I add this? "Webskin permissions are managed from within a role." How and where are they managed? I'm working with what I presume is edit.cfm in core but I'm not sure. It's just the standard object admin screen. I've "scaffolded" a permission on this type for my custom role and added "edit" but that hasn't given access to edit a content object for my new role (yep, I've restart the security model and the entire app). I'd add "edit.cfm" as an allowed webskin for my role but I don't know where to do this. One other thing which I'm not sure about is in the "Role" editor for my edit permission (which has appeared since running the scaffold) there is a "Join on" multi select box with a single option of "Navigation". I don't really know what this does or if it's relevant to my problem. Any ideas?
