What you're talking about with Galleon is integration, not a plugin.
Ray does list what users/groups etc need to be maintained if you wish to
pass through authentication to his app.... somewhere on his site or in
his readme. I have plans on doing a forum, but the funding has been
found lacking ;). If you really want to get your hands dirty, the best
place to start is to take a look at the blogging plugin. I took that
and turned it into a social networking plugin. Blog main posts become a
wall, and comments become wall comments. You can see it in action at
officialburtoncummings.com in the members section. You could do similar
with a forum, or at least that was my plan.
Sadly, we've never had enough developer traction behind plugins, similar
what you see to other CMSs.
