It should work, as it's supposed to be project -> then plugin -> then core for the order of precedence... or at least that's how I recall it. You're folder holding the webskin must be named exactly the same as the webskin folder for the plugin, and sometimes it even takes a restart of the CF services (at least for me) to make it pick up this change. I've found that dmProfile changes are especially a bugger about this.
