bUseInTree allows a type to appear as a child object to a nav node.  I use them 
for some custom types myself.  Go ahead and disable it for your custom type (or 
for the cms plugin dmLink object by extending it) if you think that will give 
you the result you're looking for.

I personally haven't used the cms plugin since it was first released back in 
late 2006 (mostly just to test it), so hopefully I'm understanding it correctly 
for you.
