Does the overall listing rule actually pass all 26 categories into the query? Can you simply return ALL articles?
If you do need to filter the "Categories" list as well, you should also attach a parent category to those news articles and filter by that. Category queries are done using joins on the refCategories table so querying by large numbers of categories is very slow.
