I really do think that if I press CANCEL that the system should go "OK - he doesn't really want it - so I will just ignore field validation and go ahead and do the cleanup". While I agree that, in general, if an object is created then the user will want to do something with it, there are times when you just accidently do something and want to back out of it. This process should be as painless as possible (given the user is already experiencing the pain of having chosen something they didnt really want to do).
