Dave,

Great to see you playing with FarCry v2! The best place for installation queries is the farcry-dev mailing list. Details on how to join are available here:
http://farcry.daemon.com.au/go/support/mailing-lists

created director D:\Data\farcry, unzipped files in here
did mapping on Apache as follows

 alias /farcry_demo "D:/Data/Farcry/farcry_demo/www"
 alias /farcry "D:/Data/Farcry/farcry_core/admin"

both checked OK on an html file

Run the install via http://localhost/farcry/install and I get
Could not find CF component farcry.farcry_core.packages.security.init

from /farcry_core/admin/install/application.cfm line 29
Question
1) how does farcry know its mapping of /farcry and
2) how does it know where the /farcry_demo web site

Sounds to me like you have a missing ColdFusion mapping. You need a /farcry mapping pointing to the root directory of the farcry installation, "D:/Data/Farcry/".

The installation routine should automatically add this mapping so I'm not sure what is going on there. Try adding it manually and see if that does the trick :)

I have taken the liberty of forwarding this message to farcry-dev in case some of the bright sparks out there have other ideas :)

Best regards,
