If you create a dmFile object, and the uploaded filename has a space in it, then the space is converted to an underscore in the database record, however the filename isn't renamed accordingly.
Without actually looking at the code, I'd guess it would do a similar thing for other characters too. On a slightly different (but related) topic, if you delete a dmFile, then the filesystem file is deleted accordingly, however the same doesn't hold true for dmImage objects.
