I'd agree with this. However, I see an issue in that you may not want
*all* the dmEvent or dmNews items to actually notify you. Once you get
into review notification systems the whole thing can become very complex.

For example, in our new site we are using dmNews for quite a lot of
"different" content types (because dmNews is a really nice generic
alternative to dmHTML when you want content to appear and disappear
automatically). E.G. News itself should expire without really notifying
anyone, as should our "Floats" announcements (just another form of news).
BUT if we were publishing some dynamic content that was set to "expire"
(from a "review" context) then that should be notified.

Then you would want to be able to state either on a per instance basis or
a per "group" (a FarCry category ??) basis what the lead time for
notification was. Should you be notified a week before? A month before?
Should there be just one notification, or should it be spaced out over 1
month, 1 week, 3 days before? Or should it just annoy you every day after
the expiry date? If you expand the FarCry category mechanism to allow
"notifications" do you want to be able to control it for each different
FarCry type that may be categorised? (Probably).

Should the whole process be wrapped up in a "workflow" packet so that a
process can be followed to either edit or re-approve the content?
(Probably - at least optionally).

So - I think being able to implement a notification system would be a
GREAT addition to FarCry - but it really should be planned out to be as
flexible as the rest of FarCry.

Fortuanately, we are currently building a generic notification system and
will be attempting to package that up as a FarCry add-on. Of course, it
will still be necessary to put appropriate hooks into FarCry to call this.
