Thanks for this, i had got most of what you outlined already, did not know details about the dmPermissionBarnacle table.
I replace the _javascript_ popup with a link to do the same call to the edit.cfm.

This took me to the the normal admin logon screen. That is when i asked my question, thought that someone would have been there before.
