> Any feedback from your clients yet? I guess the ultimate complement is if you here nothing - no complaints :-)
Of course there is feedback from the Clients (why else would I be here at 8pm!!!!). And there are always complaints because people don't like change. Seriously though, there have been "teething" problems (as one would expect). The major ones, though, were not with FarCry at all - but with backend systems we use for all of our research and with the linking back to some of our legacy systems. We have thousands of PDF research documents across hundreds of companies - all available to registered users of the site (AAM clients). We have a subscription service that sends out thousands of emails a day. We used to embed the PDF documents in the emails but (with the replacement site) we have reverted to only sending a notification and they click on the link to download the file. We probably haven't saved all that much bandwidth but have spread the load (and made our mail servers considerably happier). But we know some of the clients dont like the idea and would prefer the attachments instead. There have been issues with ensuring that our new (more secure) file delivery mechanism will work reliably across all browsers. Another "teething" problem is that we have had to synchronise our old authentication system with FarCry. We were not able to spend the time to port the whole system as each individual authorisation will have to be reviewed and better grouped before we can use the FarCry authorisation. In addition, we have other legacy systems that are not web-related that still link to this information. The plan will be to gradually phase these systems into using an API instead of interracting directly with the database. We will then be able to migrate the remaining legacy information into FarCry and adjust the API's. Then, in addition, there are always people who dont like change and will become nervous at the first sign that something isnt working as they expected. The biggest one of these for us so far has been logging into the system. The previous site had a login form on the front page as they came into the site. This actually caused us a lot of grief because there was no way we could gaurantee that they would be using HTTPS to fill in the form (other than a redirect from the main index page to HTTPS). Part of the reason for this is because we were not able to detect if the site was in HTTPS mode because of the way in which the Load Balancer talks to the servers internally. So - with FarCry - we LOVE it. Because security is only invoked when it is needed and we can easily ensure that the page is ALWAYS in HTTPS mode when it is invoked. BUT....... Many of the clients are now confused. "Where do we log in?" is a very common question. And for some reason, they feel if they cant "login" specifically then there is something wrong with the security (when, in fact, it is MORE secure than it was previously) or that their information is lost. We all know it is not lost, but the client has fears (because something has changed then maybe I have lost everything). This, of course, is an education thing and these problems will probably all go away in a couple of weeks. It must be remembered that we have over 20,000 clients to deal with and only very small help desk staffing (one person with a part-time helper) for the website. One of the most interesting things is that the FEEDBACK portion of the site has been getting some exercise but it is VERY different to the feedback we have had by phone and email. The majority of the phone and email customers were simply having problems logging in or maybe locating some things. They have been very complimentary once their issues were resolved. But, those who just filled in a FEEDBACK form were very aggressive and attacking. Some continued to post more and more feedback forms which progressively became more vitriolic. I can only put this down to there being no "human" face to respond to them (ie. the phone and email are more interractive than a feedback form). Many of these people are having problems with the fact that we are now more "Accessibility" complaint and have NOT used fixed fonts on the new site. A number of people seem to have the Text Size in their browser set to "smallest" or "largest" (try it on the site and you will see what happens) and are complaining about things being "too small" or "too big". Again - education. So... I will leave it there for now. If anybody has any questions generated from anything I have said, please feel free to ask. Otherwise I will think of something to post about what has been happening some time tomorrow.
