QUICK TIP 2004-02-03: Categorisation/Keywords Use categories to "tag" your content so that you can filter it to appear in only certain containers in your template design.
There really aren't any "examples" of "best practices" of categorisation as such. Use it however it best works for you. Basically, you need to go into the: Admin Console -> Content -> Categorisation tab and create up your Category Hierarchy in there. If you think you want more than one category tree - just add an extra level at the top and put everything else underneath Then, you go to any piece of content (e.g. News) which has the "categories" section in its edit wizard (often referred to as a PLP) expand the tree out, and mark as many categories as you like (yes, you can have multiple categories). Then, you go and edit a container on a page, and expand the "Restrict By Categories" section. There you select what category (or categories - yes, again multiple) you want to filter the content by. Save your changes, reload the page, and you only see things in the category(ies) you have chosen. You can use this for ANYTHING that can have a category attached to it. On the ABN AMRO Morgans site, we use it to filter out only selected news stories on our front page. What will you use it for? Regards, Gary Menzel [PS: Geoff - decided to make it into a Quick Tip anyways - will post it onto the site later today] --- You are currently subscribed to farcry-dev as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] MXDU2004 + Macromedia DevCon AsiaPac + Sydney, Australia http://www.mxdu.com/ + 24-25 February, 2004
