The installer should set this up automatically. By the sounds of things this is not your problem.

- not setting the /farcry web virtual to point to ../farcry_core/admin/
=> is this referring to FarCry Admin Mapping? if yes, i have set it to the
path /farcry/farcry_core/admin under Coldfusion wwwroot

If you can see the admin area then this should be fine.

- not setting the website home to ../farcry_project/www/
=> Is this referring to Application Mapping? if yes, I didn't set this
correctly. So I should be able to see a sample website if I set this
correctly?

This is the Home Directory. What web server are you using? Are you running the FarCry app as the only website?

You simply need to make sure that you can browse to the ../farcry_project/www/ directory. That is the website home directory for the FarCry application.

The error that i encountered was after creation of a html page inside the
site tab, i can't see the preview at all. The error was "index.cfm cannot
be found".

This sounds like the web mapping for the application home directory is incorrect. If you get a blank screen ever just add ?debug=1 to the end of the URL it should show you additional error information.

PS. Installation issues will get a better response if reported to the farcry-dev list -- I've cross posted this there now.
