I had the same confusion as Tom when you said you wanted to "protect"
the /farcry directory.  But from what you have said I guess it depends
on what you want to use FarCry for.

If you always log in to FarCry from a known location (and only want to
authenticate for Admin tasks) I guess this approach is OK.

But if you want to use FarCry's extensive security model on your site
(and protect some of your own pages through authentication) you can't
restrict access to the login page in such a way because the one
authentication point is used for everything.
