After a couple of emails I've realised that I probably should have used better terminology than "core".
I should reiterate what I actually meant. The work I'm starting is on the fourq (coapi) not the farcry_core. I have three builds running to verify compatibility for my apps (local copy of one in production, fresh install, and the app I'm working on as of now)
and plan on retaining that compatibility.

I've recently had a project come across my desk for an intranet app that doesn't require the full-on farcry cms, but can make use of the core quite well. So since I'm building afresh on top of the core I thought I would ask a couple of questions regarding it.
I'm well aware that the core itself 'is working', so putting any effort into it isn't a priority. (If it isn't broken...)
But since it's saving me some time, I figured I would take some time to see if I can make it easier to work with, scope some vars, etc.
The project is built around Sap DB (now shipping as MaxDB via Mysql), so there is yet another 'case' to add throughout the core for syntax variances. So I'd like to work on externalizing the database specifics from the core as well. (retaining the same api for compatability of course).
Obviously this wouldn't effect anyone as far as it goes, because it's not in the cvs tree (though it would be a down the road goal), but is there any out right objections to this that I need to be aware of from the start?
Another question, I've seen a lot of CFMX (6) based code throughout the core,(vars being in cfsets, rest of code being in script) but I've seen super.xx() calls (6.1) in other parts of the code. So I'm assuming that 6.1 is the only supported platform, correct?
