As we get closer to actually launching our first FarCry site I have a few questions about the tree data:
What kind of scenarios would make us need to use the "Diagnostics" tools like Fix Tree Levels and such?
These are really there for people making tree code changes, dynamically populating the tree from scripts (and making a mess of things) and the like. They are supposed to be developer tools not administrator tools.
How can the tree data become corrupt?
Well we're hoping that it can't :) Generally the tree code has been very stable for some time. It is worth noting that so called "corruption" is really just a loss or confusion of positional data and not a loss of actual page content.
Would it help to perform all tree actions within <cftransaction> tags? (I haven't looked to close at the tree code so I don't even know if this is a possibility.)
No. This is not possible.
My only concern is we'll have a lot of navigation objects and a lot of people working with them.
We have several clients with many 1000's of nodes in their tree who perform tree updates such as copies and moves with little or no trauma. There's obviously no warranty attached to that statement!
If you are concerned about the issue, you could always populate the tree with 1000's of nodes using the quick-builder and test the tree moves and updates.
