I'm not sure what Daemon recommends, but in the past I have copied everything to do with to default type into my application directory. Once you move everything into your application you need to change PLP tag, now located in <appname>/packages/types/_dmhtml/edit.cfm, so that the stepDir attribute points to "/farcry/#application.applicationname#/packages/types/_dmhtml/plpEdit" You can then modify, add, or remove PLP steps as needed.
