Well, I give up. Can someone recommend another (free) WYSIWYG editor for FarCry besides soEditor Lite? Or barring that, another CMS that stresses simplicity for the content-manager?

There are plenty of (free) WYSIWYGs out there that you can impliment into farcry (my favorite is still FCKeditor). However, you'd have to modify code in the farcry_core in order to get it to work.

There is one editor out there called htmlArea (v3.0Beta) that supports Mozilla-based browsers and XHTML. Plugin support has been started in Farcry v2.2, however the WYSIWYG is still in beta and not all features work correctly in Farcry (like undo/redo). Still, I use it because I prefer Firefox for my web browser. You can find out more about the minor features that don't work (and some of their possible fixes) in a thread on this mailing list. Search for the thread called "HTMLArea js error" posted by me on Sept 1, 2004.

You can find download information for htmlArea v3.0Beta at http://www.htmlarea.com/ and on SourceForge at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=69750&package_id=68809&release_id=220826.

To install it into farcry uncompress the files into farcry_core/admin/includes/lib/htmlarea and set it up in farcry|admin|ConfigFiles|general (and set RichTextEditor to HTMLArea). I can't help much after that though, however (as I understand it) htmlArea is planned to be included in the Farcry 2.3 release. I doubt all the bugs will be addressed though (hopefully a couple bugs will be addressed as discussed in that eariler thread. Like choosing "complete" from the PLP dropdown and the form looses all of your work).

Jeff C.
