One thought, might it make more sense to use custom markup for the nodes rather than the html headings? >Also, it doesn't use word html. I parse the xml and output >html. So it's as clean as it can get. Basically just text, >tables, lists. No formatting at all. Unfortunately I don't have time to check this out right now, but are you saying that if I have bold text in word that formatting is not preserved when imported?
