I noticed that members of the publishers policy group were having problems editing publishing rules via the administrator. Users in this policy group were receiving permission errors stating they did not have permission to edit the publishing rule. I found this odd because the same users were able to edit publishing rules via the design view. Upon further investigation I found that \farcry_core\admin\admin\editRule.cfm requires the AdminCOAPITab permission to allow edits via the administrator. This effectively limits the Publishing Rules tab to users in the Admin policy groups.
I was thinking that it may be better to have a specific permission for this tab, say an ObjectRulesTab permission, similar to the other object tab permissions (ObjectArchiveTab, ObjectAuditTab, ObjectDumpTab, etc.). What does everyone think?
The reality is that the Publishing Rules tab in the Site Overview area of admin is effectively out dated. It will need to be updated as part of an overall revision of container management from a user perspective. this had been put on hold till we worked out a more elegant mechanism for shared containers.
FarCry 2.3 has a new mechanism for shared containers called "Container Reflection". This will be available in the 2.3 release from a development perspective but we are yet to decide how "publishers" will interact with this technology by default. More on this later.
The short story is.. don't use the Publishing Rules tab at this time.
