I'll try to speak about Plone since we are using it for a couple of extranets.

Strengths:
* excellent for a web-based document management system
* modern and standards-compliant architecture
        - fully object-oriented modeling system
        - XML-based templating system
        - Meets Section 508 and WAI accessbility requirements
        - full (x)HTML and CSS support (it validates!) which makes look+feel
customizations very easy

Some gripes are:
* it's an extraction layer upon an extraction layer (Python ---> Zope --->
Plone) so I think it can be a little daunting when you first get into it; you
have to know Python + the "Zope" way of doing things + the Plone system

* Zope DB; it's heirarchial and not relational (although you can use PostgreSQL
w/ Plone)

* The UI; the CMS is integrated in the front-end and I've found it confusing or
a bit of a barrier to actually reading and accessing content

In my opinion, if you're looking for a good document management system, Plone
would be an excellent choice. We're using it for closed-systems like our
extranets and intranets for managing files and documents between groups of
users. But, my sense is that a CMS like FarCry is better suited for
public-facing sites.
