Not that I'm really one with enough experience to give advice on farcry yet, but this sounds almost exactly like what I've been doing the last couple of days. See my thread "newbie extending dmNavigation". I modified _primaryNav.cfm to generate my own main nav and I'm about to look into modifying _secondaryNav.cfm to generate my second level nav as vertical links. However, I'm still looking into the possibility of using an included object or a custom rule for the vertical nav and just placing it in a container. Like I said, I'm not ready to really give anyone advice, so please wait for someone to validate what I'm saying. However, I hope that will get you on the right path and/or prod someone into getting me off the wrong path if that is the case!!!
