Geoff Bowers (from Daemon) addressed this earlier in the week.....

The reason the workflow doesn't work the same for News-type items is
that the whole concept of them within FarCry was for an RSS/XML type
feed. Therefore - when you "publish" an item - its "out there". Then
you publish another item to augment or diminish the previous item -
rather than editing the existing one. Of course you may edit the
existing one to fix a spelling mistake or add some information, etc.
But you wouldn't change the "essence" of the information.

While we dont provide the RSS feed on our site there is no reason to
say that we mightn't in the future. So - if we change a News-type
item - we simply expire the old one and then create a new one. This
way, we stay in line with the RSS concept for the future.

What I can't remember (off the top of my head) is if it is possible to
stop people editing something (i.e. only give them "creator" rights).
I'd have to delve into the permissions list to find this - unless
someone else has the answer off the top of their head.

Regards,
Gary Menzel
