I forgot to mention that I run them from their own virtual directory (known as 'alias' in Apache).


example:
  www.sameDomain.com/marketing
  www.sameDomain.com/finance
  www.sameDomain.com/siteA
  www.sameDomain.com/siteB

In most cases (with regards to intranets) my clients just use the netBios name of the intranet server (instead of a domain name), but its the same logic (the browser doesn't know the difference).
