Just an additional word of warning - already given by others. By all means LOOK and READ the core - OR copy it to override it in your own application instance - but DONT change it (unless you are sure of what you are doing and believe that Daemon will integrate your changes to core in future releases).
If you change the core and then want to upgrade to a new release - all your changes will be lost.
