I have a question about CSS objects. I placed a CSS object in one of
my nav branches. I assumed I could create new css styles and
overwrite existing styles with this CSS object, but it doesn't seem to
have any affect on the page. I check the source and there's no
mention of my css at all. Is something wrong here?

Add <webskin:importCSS> in you dmHeader.cfm or whatever you have called it. This will look up through the navigation tree for each page and include the required CSS files.

There is a type attribute to wither link or import the CSS files.

This is covered in one of the walkthroughs - Brendons, Site Makeover - http://farcry.daemon.com.au/go/objectid/72A0F128-D0B7-4CD6-F98F11EB2944D212
