If you've defined a FU attribute for dmNavigation then it will be used instead of the title of the nav node when generating friendly URLs. Use of the attribute is completely optional, and the input is in the 'advanced' section of the PLP so users will not see it.
I've implemented this because some of our nav nodes had considerably large FUs which we wanted to shorten, w/o shortening the title of the nav node itself.
If anybody is interested in the relevant patches to 2.3 then I can email them to you offlist.
