Thanks for the great information.  Regarding your observations, I
looked into ltmain.sh a little bit, it seems that I have a pretty new
version.  Not exactly sure what I can do to support --always-make, but
since you have a work-around, I will leave this one alone.

Regarding your observation about version number, I will release the
next version as 1.4.0, without the ibis prefix.
