When kexecing a new kernel with LVM-based root, I get:

Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,0)

The kexec commands were:

  kexec -l /boot/vmlinuz-... \
    --append "ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 console=ttyS0,19200n8" \
    --initrd /boot/initrd...img \
    --console=serial
  kexec -e

Is LVM not supported?
