hey stephane,

thanks for your fast answer.

Hi IOhannes,

libfaustwithllvm.a library is a way to ease use of libfaust, without having the
use to install/compile LLVM on its own.

as said before: this is not an issue on Debian.
i can make sure that 'apt install faust' will end up with a working LLVM toolchain.
i *already* make sure that 'apt install faust' has a working compiler.

We correctly use in faustgen~ (where we really need to link LLVM statically),

but as I said: does your faustgen~ work on Linux?

but also FaustLive on Windows AFAICS

but then: what about Linux?

Embedding LLVM in a library is not so unusual as Cmajor project also
demonstrates: https://github.com/SoundStacks/cmajor, with a 143 MO binary on
macOS.

but again: not on Linux.

i'm really talking about the 'faust' package for the Debian GNU/Linux distributions.
so far, all the use-cases for this library appear to be non-linux.
grepping for "withllvm" on the files installed by the current package yields 0 (zero) results (unlike grepping in the sources, of course).

which functionality will break if i drop this library from the package?

if there is *some* functionality (and please tell me), then I might consider shipping the library in a supplementary package (that people can choose to install).

So I would suggest to but another harddisk !?

nah, seriously.
my little /user/-story was anecdotical (and hence in parens).

i'm much more concerned about people with modest hardware who are not having a university job in a well-paying 1st world country like austria, and who just want to install faust on their RPi0 with 'apt install faust'
