Not sure of the source of the clicks, probably a sudden jump of the phasor,
but have you tried passing sfreq through a simple low pass filter to stop
it changing too fast? Probably you want it to change no faster than a
human hand can move, so a 10 Hz or 20 Hz filter would be not too
noticeable, and would ensure smooth frequency transitions.
