#2335: brittle style support

In Firefox 3 I start with the following text:
<h2>this is interesting</h2>
<p>123</p>
I select "interesting" and add <code> around it:
<h2>this is <code>interesting</code></h2>
<p>123</p>
Then I go to the end of "interesting", hit "End", and backspace and type
and backspace and type a few times. I get this:
<h2>this is <code>inter<span style="font-family: Arial,Verdana,sans-
serif;">esting</span></code></h2>
<p>123</p>
Bad, bad, and broken.
