There are several whitespace defitions, the base whitespace def in Unicode
is [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitespace_(computer_science) here] but
most languages restrict to ASCII whitespace. So either you restrict to
ASCII or strip all Unicode whitespace.
