#3405: Pressing enter at end of line adds extra linebreak

Start with a completely empty editor. Type several words, then press
enter. The cursor should be positioned just below the previous line, but
instead there is an extraneous linebreak.
I believe this is related to #2956.
This can be reproduced with any of the nightly samples.
