There one a "JVM" made for DOS a while back. But it really wasn't a JVM, it supported a java-like langauge that couldn't use threads, etc. It was a subset of the java langauge, so if you compiled bitcode on another machine that didn't use any of its non-supported features you could still run it. I forget the name though.... But thats what the topica archives are for:
