Every now and then people complain about what FreeDOS does NOT do, and some
ingrates even insult the developers.

I'd like to praise all those who have and still are working on it for what it
DOES do -- it handles everything I've asked it to do, and most specifically,
it fits on a floppy, with lots of room left over. In my opinion, small size
is one of its most important characteristics.

Without FreeDOS, I might have been unable to develop my PC-based voting
system. FreeDOS allows me to put the operating system, all the voting
software and about a hundred different ballots on a single floppy, with no
licensing issues. A discarded 386 with no hard drive can become a
direct-recording voting machine, inherently more secure (and far less
expensive) than anything else available.

I don't yet have the system completely perfected, but if anyone wants to
check it out, go to www.savioc.com.

By the way -- the letter that prompted this asked about protected mode.
Without using protected mode, I have made use of the memory above one meg to
store a complete diskette image.
