Regression is a statistical method to discover hidden relationships in a given data set - data set that might represent consumer behavior, stock market trends, weather patterns, etc. Dr. Len Stefanski, professor of statistics at North Carolina State University, has found a novel way to infuse images into the data set in such way that if the optimal regression model is derived, it reveals the hidden image < http://www.stat.ncsu.edu/blogs/news/?p=30 >. He has done this to bring "fun" to regression exercises, but his idea could be expanded to cryptography, where hidden messages in a data set can only be decoded by the correct regression model. More samples of his data set can be found here < http://www4.stat.ncsu.edu/~stefanski/NSF_Supported/Hidden_Images/stat_res_plots.html >.
