My understanding is that they are in process of getting validated. This is a
brand new product that was only available as of yesterday. FIPS validation
will take quite some time to get. I'd be interested in learning about any
other products that do the same thing. I'm interested in the hardware
encryption instead of software because I don't want to install any software on
the host computer, and it must work without requiring Administrator privileges
on the host computer.
I also know of the Kingston Data Traveler Secure Privacy Edition (DTSP), but
from the info I've read on the websites the IronKey looks like a better product.

Looks interesting, but I notice they say "FIPS Compliant" rather than "FIPS
Validated." This means lack the money to go through the validation process,
lack the confidence they could pass the validation process, or the person who
designed their web page did not know the difference. Lacking a validated
implementation of AES means they can't be used to protect sensitive federal
government data.

Subject: [FDE] IronKey fully encrypted USB Flash Drive.

Is anyone familiar with the IronKey company (www.ironkey.com) or their product?
Looks like they have a 100% encrypted USB flash drive with on-board
encryption. I don't know if this is off-topic for this discussion, but it
seemed appropriate. I am researching this type of device now and would
appreciate anyone's input.

Thanks,
Larry C.
