Just to clarify my previous posting (as recommended by our patent agent who didn't think my original post was sufficiently clear):
---------------- A number of ECC patents have been issued to Apple, Certicom, and others. They don't really block use of ECC, as it is possible to conform to all relevant ECC standards without licensing the patents. Microsoft, Sun, and others have unlicensed ECC products; Certicom has persuaded others to license some of the patents in its portfolio. ISC has both licensed and unlicensed products. We have a Certicom/NSA license to cover our use of ECMQV (when necessary) and to pacify those customers who prefer licensed products. We have also been selling unlicensed ECC-based products for years. ECC patent licenses are not necessary for most applications. -mjm _______________________________________________ FDE mailing list [email protected] http://www.xml-dev.com/mailman/listinfo/fde
