My team has been evaluating several Full Disk Encryption products. All
vendors have told them to check the disk for bad sectors before installing
the FDE software. However, when my team does a "chkdsk 'f" on the C: drive
(only drive on our laptops), they get a message back from chkdsk that says
the "volume is in use by another process". The other alternative is to use
the diagnostic CD that came with our laptops, but that would take hours per
laptop to complete. To do a mass FDE rollout with the diagnostic CD is
unrealistic.

My question is - what do you recommend for my team to check if the disk has
bad sectors before we install the FDE software? Because we plan to do a
rollout, we obviously need a method that can be automated. Thanks in
advance.
