I think for average users, they may not feel the performance hit of 
software FDE most of the time, but everyone will experience it sometime. 
Few example of this is:
1) If a user is working with large files (i.e. excel, pictures), the 
constant data encryption/decription that occurs with the swap space on the 
drive will be a performance hit.
2) Same thing goes when the hard drive is defragged.
3) Lastly, when uninstalling the software fde, the decription process will 
take a while.
