researchers say.
The Asian Fisheries Society (AFS) is a non-profit scientific society
founded in 1984 by fishery professionals in Asia.
The English word "society" emerged in the 15th century and is derived
from the French société. The French word, in turn, had its origin in
the Latin societas, a "friendly association with others," from socius
meaning "companion, associate, comrade or business partner."
Society is sometimes contrasted with culture.
Human societies are often organized according to their primary means
of subsistence.
