Members of Bible Society of India To commemorate the diamond jubilee of the Bible Society of India a Bible procession was taken out from Shaniwarwada to City Church, Quartergate on Saturday. Dedicated to the cause of disseminating ‘The word of Lord’ throughout the world, the ‘Bombay Auxiliary Bible Society’ was formed on June 12, 1813. It was transformed into Bible Society of India in 1944. Out of its 15 branches across the country, Mumbai Auxiliary’s Pune branch has been active in translating, publishing and distributing the Bible in various languages since January 15, 1949. Currently, the Pune branch has around 2 lakh members in the district. Speaking about the milestones of the Society’s 60 years history, secretary T Y Waghmare said that the Bible Society continuously undertakes projects to spread God’s word effectively. Eighty-five-year- old Waghmare has been the secretary of the Pune branch for the last 47 years. “The Pune branch of Bombay Auxiliary has the largest number of members and donors. Of many projects, the recent release of a children’s Bible in Marathi with colourful pictorial edition has been appreciated a lot.
