I found that when i was going for re-checks, if i had around 47% or
48% the marks never changed, the closer you were to 50% the less
chance of a change.

When i had 42% on one occasion and 38% on another i was bumped up to
50%.  Odd as it seems the more marks you needed the more likely it was
to happen.  Could be pure coincidence.

Whatever marks you get though rechecks are worth it, i managed to get
three passed on rechecks.  Since they weren't all in one sitting that
represents something between 6 months and a year of time saved as well
as not having to pay for courses or further exams. Well worth it, and
don't feel its impossible if you are over 10% short.

Alas all this means is that the best before date of my fe-1s is more
likely to expire before apprenticeships start appearing again.  :(
