For install the choice is kinda limited (just 1) so no preference
there because there is nothing to prefer

There are two options: traditional (optical) and universal (arrow).

For the updates i would go for: system-software-update48d.png but i
would change the arrow colors

My only doubt about that icon is the size of the graphic, which does not fill the entire frame of the icon.

Down arrow with red
Up arrow with green

Down as in (unsecure) software leaving thus red
Up as in new improved (secure) software coming in.
