Doug I think that's how it needs to be done, be able to get to just the server part of the app - I would suspect it would be a target for Ant to build. Also, if it helps, here's the .properties file I used to use to install Fedora: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/649440/install.30.properties
I would ask, how do other war file distributed apps get installed via apt-get? Could just we mirror that and then hardcode the variables via the .properties file?
