Dear Fedora Community,
Our 2010 DuraSpace/ /sponsorship program continues to strongly develop.
As of today, we have a total of $214,000 in financial support committed
by our community members. The list of contributors so far can be seen
below. This list includes those institutions which have formally
initiated the process. There are a few who we have verbal commitments
from that are not yet listed.
In addition to supplying the funds to cover about 25% of our operating
costs on an on-going basis, the Sponsorship Program is designed to
provide us with a large number of active partners in our mission to
preserve the world's intellectual, cultural and scientific information
by providing technologies and services that help to ensure that digital
content is accessible over the long term.
In order for us to maintain our 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit
organization, we must show that we are not funded by only a few large
companies or institutions. This first year of the program is a
particularly challenging time for us, as our grant funding winds down
and the offering of our new cloud-based service, DuraCloud, ramps up, so
we will definitely appreciate all the contributions that we can get. We
have passed the two-thirds mark towards reaching our first-year goal of
$300,000 in just four months.
Please keep those cards and letters (and emails) coming, folks! The
Fedora community has been very generous and we really appreciate it. We
tend to be more in touch with the technical folks at each institution,
but we have sent letters to your directors and project managers.
Anything you can do to help nudge your institution along to sponsor
would be greatly appreciated!
If you would like to learn more about the sponsorship program you can
view the materials we have sent out to the community at

If you have questions, please feel free to email me.
